Pillow Pop – Garden District

I felt a bit sorry for this little one. It didn’t quite get the post it deserved. So I’m back!

Must admit I was a teensy bit daunted by this design at first and at one point I thought I’d never get it done! There seemed to be a never ending process of steps – cutting then sewing, cutting then sewing, some more cutting then some more sewing and so on!!

Then there was a bit of a mix up with my fabric order so I was sat in the cold, dark, back room (oh poor me!) sewing this on Christmas Eve. I’m quite proud of myself for sticking with it. That was not how I pictured the night before Christmas and sewing against the clock is never clever!!

Buuuut in the end I got there and this is the result……

The ghost of Christmas past!

The whole Christmas gift/decoration making has kind of passed me by this year!

This may be down to my preoccupation with November birthday gifts, or my preoccupation with the City Sampler  however I feel it is more likely my memories of past Christmas stress that is the cause. This goes back to me as a newbie let’s give it a go, let’s make my first ever quilt on a rubbish sewing machine three days before Christmas kind of quilter.

This time last year this is what I was doing………….

Pillow Popping!

This one has certainly been a long, long, long time coming.

Although I’ve thrown in a couple of pics here and there I just haven’t had time to write a full post until today….. the day I finally finished, woo hoo!

Here’s a bit of background ………

Before the summer happened my mum mentioned that she might like me to make her a couple of new cushions. I’m not quite sure how serious about this she really was, but after some badgering and persistent pulling out of the fabrics and ‘pillow pop’ she came round.

The cushions (sorry I just can’t call them pillows!) my mum chose were Urban Seaweed and Garden District (currently WIP).

So this is where I was up to last.

Then I came to a bit of a standstill. Continue reading

Back on Track – A lovely Year of Finishes

So I missed last month. Nevermind. There were too many other things happening and linking up just wasn’t a realistic prospect so I let it go and felt the better for it.

Now I am raring to go and have many things to add to the finishes list. These would be:

  • Keeping up with the City Samplers

Drawn to the light

Recently I’ve realised that I am neglecting my darker fabrics. This isn’t a new thing….it was the same with the Bloom Bloom…..I’m not sure exactly why this is, it just seems that although they draw the eye they don’t catch my eye in the same way as light / medium fabrics do.

It’s mostly the solid colours that I avoid, I like them in isolation, but while I would combine mediums and lights in one block I tend to avoid using more than one dark.

Maybe it’s because those in my stash tend to lack warmth, maybe it’s because when I look at them they seem to swallow all light whole…or…maybe…(and I like this possibility best)…..I need to buy more fabrics.  I think it must be that one!!

So I’m sorry dark fabrics if you’re not getting the attention you deserve, I am trying to redress the balance…honest. However, sadly this time it didn’t go so well.

We started off on the right foot….

A Lovely Year of Finishes – Fresh Start for June

I think I’ve been having a bit of a relapse this week after all the excitement of finishing my quilt…. been sooo tired in the evenings. This is probably made worse by my inablilty to go to bed before midnight. I don’t know why but I seem to find it physically impossible to do so!

Anyway because of this I’ve been planning my next projects instead. To help me along I ordered these which arrived yesterday…books
